If there is one things that gays share, it is a wicked sense of humor. And if there is one thing lacking in much of the Berkshire art scene, it is just that. Oh you can find tasteless ka-ka fuggayou topical homer - especially at the comedy clubs, or once in a blue moon we get lucky and an act like the Tiger Lillies or the glorious Ballets Trockadero will appear at the impenetrable Mass MoCA, but the down to earth creative stuff, that's hard to find. This example requires a little depth of knowledge into Jewish culture (the short pants) classical music (Kim-Ax-Ma), The Three Tenors, Spike Jones and above all, the goddess herself, Gloria Gaynor. Disco is not dead, it's just resting, dear.
A trip to the Igudesman & Joo website will open up a whole new world of A Little Nightmare Music and cleverness for you to enjoy.

Funny post, but I have to disagree with your assesment of MASS MoCA programming. Just last week there was a showing by Cynthia Hopkins of her new show "The Success of Failure" that fits the bill of your post. Funny, witty, down to earth, weird and fabulous.
The fantastic puppeteer Basil Twist, while he hasn't been up on the past two years, has workshopped many shows at MASS MoCA. Dutch choreographer Anouk VanDijk just workshopped a piece here last month that again hits the mark of what you describe.
Yes, The Lillies and Ballet Troc are the big ticket items that everyone recognizes, but there is a wealth of smaller, lesser known artists and shows at MASS MoCA that constitute an ongoing fringe festival of sorts.
And as full disclosure, yes, I work there, in the performing arts no less.
First and foremost, Eric, if you are a member of the tech crew at Mass MoCA, here is the compliment that all of you deserve for your professionalism. Most people do not realize the the more seamless the lights, sound and stage setups, the smoother the experience for the audience. And Mass MoCA's technical aspects are as good as you get, short of IATSE.
I am glad we both enjoyed Lilies and the Trocks. You bring up three other events which I did not see so I did not specifically mention them. I did write about them, however, in my January 21 Winter Preview in Berkshire Fine Arts.
The arts are much like anything else. We all have different takes on it and I have my blind spots like anyone else. Thanks for pointing them out.
